DUI Symbolism

Ultramarine blue and golden orange the colors used for Aviation units. The winged centaur suggests the combination of men and machine which is embodied in the armed helicopter. The crescent denotes day and night operations.

DUI Background

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 160th Aviation Battalion on 5 March 1982. It was redesignated for the 160th Aviation Regiment effective 16 January 1988. The insignia was amended to correct the description and add metric measurements on 22 September 1992.

Constituted 1 April 1982 in the Regular Army as Company C, 160th Aviation Battalion, an element of the 101st Airborne Division, and activated at Fort Campbell, Kentucky

(160th Aviation Battalion relieved 16 October 1986 from assignment to the 101st Airborne Division)

Reorganized and redesignated 16 January 1988 as Company C, 160th Aviation

Consolidated 16 May 1990 with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 160th Aviation (constituted 16 September 1989 in the Regular Army and activated at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia), and consolidated unit designated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 160th Aviation (organic elements constituted and activated 16 January 1988-16 September 1989)

Redesignated 1 October 2005 as the 3d Battalion, 160th Aviation Regiment
